The size of orbs in astrology…

Each astrologer will use different orbs – exact degrees between the planetary angles in astrology – to assess the impact of certain Aspects (influences between planets and important positions).

It’s said in terms of Eclipse analysis in Natal Charts, that the orb has to be very tight, exact or no more than 1 or 2 degrees to have affect, but other astrologers may have a different take, because these are things you gauge with experience and the way you work as an individual.

If I am writing for zodiac signs from a Solar Horoscope viewpoint, the orb I consider is roughly three degrees either side. But this depends on the planets under consideration, and overall planetary activity.

Today is a point in case, with the Sun in Pisces forging a Sextile with Pluto in Capricorn. The Sun is 6 degrees, Pluto 7 degrees, so it’s not quite exact, but will be tomorrow.

However, in my view the influence of this important Sextile will have been felt since yesterday and is reinforced today, because Mercury is also within 1 degree of being exactly in Sextile with Pluto and is therefore conjunct or side by side with the Sun.

Furthermore, Jupiter is close to being exactly Square with Pluto, but I think this Aspect has been building in importance over the last three weeks.

So what does this all mean for today. Well, the Earth Element of Pluto (power, change, transformation) carries the Water Element of the Sun (neat drive) and Mercury (talk and thought) really well. So changes can flow, but not necessarily painlessly.

Pluto can be about inappropriate power (Dictatorships, regimes, suppression, repression) and clearly anyone who is happy enough to use the dark arts to maintain their position is not going to easily relinquish it – as we are seeing in Libya.

But Jupiter in Aries is about just going for it, especially as far as justice is concerned, and with Uranus and Mars set to sweep into Aries in the four weeks, there will be continued turbulence, and things could get very bloody indeed but the bigger picture is that the evilness of 41 years is being opposed, change is occurring, but this situation may drag on longer than people think, partly for geographical reasons, partly for geopolitical reasons, and partly because Gaddafi is so desperate, with very few places to run to, bar a few African states.
