This week sees Jupiter, traditionally the planet of fortune in astrology, and of expansion go into a retrograde which is going to last through to 11th August. Also this week, both Mercury and Venus forge right angles to Jupiter, so this is very much a time to be conscious of the need to show caution in what we say or what we commit to do. Perhaps the simplest way to do this is to ensure that we under-promise and over-deliver.

Jupiter retrograde has a reputation for slowing things down when it comes to the natural enthusiasm and optimism this planet usually creates and in the Houses it’s influencing in our Natal or Solar Horoscopes. And in the sign of Sagittarius itself it is very much to do with international relations, the rule of law, travel, higher education, philosophy, spirituality, adventurism, independence, and free spiritedness. All of these things can be affected by the retrograde, insofar as these strands can come into much sharper relief in the public consciousness. So I think it’s entirely possible that the world stock markets could go through a period of retraction, that spats between different countries are possible, that BREXIT will continue to create huge controversy, and that issues involving overseas property, investments, and journeying can also be very much the fore.
But equally Jupiter retrograde is a chance for us all to step back from the more material practical implications, and to embrace a more inward and spiritual outlook in our approach to the area influenced. So this period can be a time to develop more perspective, to be less focused on immediate success and progress, and to embrace the virtues of the bigger picture, the history and heritage of how things have evolved, and also developing a more sanguine and respectful appreciation of how different cultures, religion’s or spiritual beliefs can complement one another.
This week also continues to see the North Node in Cancer in opposition to Pluto. This is an opportunity to develop and embrace a more nurturing side of life, in the face of the onslaught of materialism, ownership, and wealth, at the detriment to a more caring connected society. However, because Pluto is in the conservative Capricorn, vested interests, will resist this to protect their profits and power. Furthermore the Quarter Moon on Friday is also in Cancer, and this can frustrate the more “go for it” energies of the Sun in Aries and once more asks us to slow down and think about the implications of our attitudes or our desires.
