Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, have taken "conscious uncoupling" to a new level. Although not the originator of the term, they have now assigned it a place in the vocabulary of all future couples wishing to put a fresh slant on their divorce or partnership split. With the sad news that they are to separate, a look at their charts reveals some of the reasons that might have lead up to this decision.
Looking at their Horoscopes
Gwyneth is a Libra, with her Sun conjunct Pluto in Libra and Mars in Virgo, making her a strong person with plenty of determination and grit. Though she may look like the epitome of a flower child, she can be quite businesslike, and is easily able to take the lead whenever necessary. It may be the tie-in with Mars in Virgo, that makes her quite driven, and something of a perfectionist. It was after experiencing panic attacks a few years back, that she realized her life needed to change quite drastically. She changed to a healthier diet and began expressing her feelings, rather than being in denial about them.
Chris is a Pisces, with his Sun on the Descendant of the chart, meaning that he naturally enjoys the day to day interaction of living and working around others. He's also very creative, with this line-up enhancing his musical career. He has Mars in Aquarius trine Pluto in Libra, plus his Pisces Sun trines Uranus in Scorpio, so he needs space and enjoys being able to go off and do his own thing. His Moon in Leo, makes a wide conjunction to Saturn, which can encourage insecurities, sometimes enhancing a need for attention. Strangely enough, Gwyneth also has a somewhat wider Moon Saturn conjunction in Gemini, so may have shades of the same issue. Chris’s Saturn opposes his Mars and forms a T-Square with Uranus at the apex, so frustrations associated with life and relationships may take their toll on him, leading him to silently rebel against duties and responsibilities. Later though, he may feel guilty for doing so, as he is a naturally doting and caring dad.
A look at their inter-aspects, reveals that although they seem genuinely fond of each other, with that spark of chemistry between them - there is little glue in the form of strong Saturn aspects, to keep their marriage intact in the long-term. Their conversations can be quite passionate and intense, as her Mercury conjuncts his Pluto, yet it doesn't necessarily translate to the rest of the relationship. It may have been strength of character that has kept them going so far, rather than a desire to be together.
It seems that by declaring their split, they may have made the right choice, as they can consciously co-parent their children Apple and Moses, while maintaining their freedom to live their lives on their own terms. Their statement that they are the best of friends and will keep the family unit together on this basis, really does seem to be the case.
