The fatal shooting by Oscar Pistorious of his then girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on February 14, 2013, shocked South Africa and the world. Currently he is on trial - with the outcome likely to prove that he either accidentally shot her thinking she was an intruder, or that he murdered her. Out of the evidence so far it has emerged that he enjoys owning and using guns, and that he had allegedly fired them once or twice inappropriately. As a double amputee he has proved himself as an outstanding athlete in both paralympic and able-bodied track races.
His chart reveals that he is a Scorpio, with his Sun in the last degree of the sign. Yet, he also has Venus, Pluto and Mercury in a wide conjunction in Scorpio. While his Ascendant is in Aquarius, his Midheaven is also in Scorpio and conjunct Pluto. This line-up hints that Pistorious is indeed an intense and very determined person. He’s has had to struggle from the start as his legs were amputated below the knee at just eleven months. However, he credits his mother as being the driving force in his life – encouraging him to overcome his problems and become a winner in the process.
A closer look at his chart reveals that deep-seated emotions might surface of which he is not always completely in control. His natal Sun challenges Mars in Aquarius in his first house of self-expression, suggesting that he has been dedicated to fiercely and creatively transforming his life and his world - yet conflicts also show up that could lead to aggression. The Moon in Leo squares a Venus Pluto conjunction, so he might not be adverse to triggering dramas, even unconsciously, in a bid to get attention. It’s likely that he has demons that he has not entirely conquered which might cause havoc in his life just as he is about to succeed in a really big way.
A look at the aspects between his and Reeva’s chart reveals some very interesting connections between them. Her Sun opposed his natal Mars in Aquarius, while her Mars in Leo squared his Venus Pluto conjunction, so there’s a chance that they may have pushed each other’s buttons on more than one occasion. At the same time there were some lovely links there as her Jupiter conjuncted his Sun and trined his Moon – making for happier times as well.
At the time he shot Reeva transiting Saturn was conjuncting his natal Pluto and Midheaven, drawing attention to potentially darker aspects of Pistoruis that he would not have wanted made public. Yet, a look at the months ahead as transiting Pluto in Capricorn sextiles Jupiter three times, along with other positive Jupiter connections, hints that he may not face a jail sentence, but might have to go into some kind of therapy program or face fines or other lesser restrictions – allowing him to continue training and competing.
