Ten of Swords Tarot Card Description

Numerology works on the idea of a (usually) single digit number having a particular set of associations. Ten is not a single digit, so we make it one by adding the 1 and the 0 together, this gives us a value of one. The number one is associated with new start, which by extension means change. Unfortunately, most of us prefer to amble along tried and tested paths which is why the Ten of Swords tends to be an unpopular card.

Upright Meaning

The Ten of Swords is one of the least popular cards in the tarot pack, but it really isn’t that bad. We all like to sit firmly in the middle of our comfort zone, but this card suggests that you are about to get a rude awakening. The Ten of Swords sweeps away the old and familiar and replaces it with change and new beginnings. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do this in a very subtle way, and it may seem as if the world is crashing around your ears. Naturally, this can be a very stressful and worrying time, but it can lead to wonderful new opportunities. The Ten of Swords asks you to forget everything you ever assumed, dump your baggage and move on. Kicking and screaming will get you nowhere, the best approach is to glide forward gracefully with an open heart and mind. At first, you may find this so unpleasant that you’ll be convinced things can’t get any worse - you are right; they are actually going to get a whole lot better. In relationships, you need to avoid playing the victim or the martyr, there is nothing more likely to ruin a romance than hearing the cry ‘look at everything I’ve given up for you!’ The Ten of Swords can also suggest you will undergo a change of heart regarding a situation or person. If life is being irksome at the moment, don’t worry, things are set to improve in the future.

Reversed Meaning

A situation may deteriorate a little more before you are able to move forward - that’s the bad news. The good news is, your forbearance will be rewarded and happier times lay ahead. Dramas are great on the screen or stage, but you or someone around you, seems to enjoy producing them in your front room where they are annoying rather than entertaining. It’s time to drop the curtain on this decidedly dull production. You may need to be aware that someone is trying to control you by playing the martyr or victim, that is precisely what it is; an act. Wise up to their shenanigans or you can be sure they will make you suffer.
